Acetoxy silicone releases acetic acid as it cures — the vinegar smell. That makes it unsuitable for concrete, mortar, anodized aluminium and mirror backing, where the acid causes etching or corrosion. But on glass, ceramic, glazing and many plastics, acetoxy systems cure faster, grab harder and cost less than neutral alternatives, which is why they remain the workhorse of showcase and glazing assembly.
