Natural stone is porous. A conventional sealant containing plasticiser or solvent will bleed that liquid into the stone around the joint, producing a permanent dark halo that no amount of cleaning removes. Stone sealants use non-migrating plasticiser systems and are tested for staining on granite and marble before they are released for specification.
