FAQs — PR-238
What is PR-238 used for?
Curtain wall inter-story fire barriers, cable and pipe penetration fire sealing, fire-resistant door and window perimeters, and building compartment firestop systems. It is specified for both interior and exterior fire-rated joints.
What fire classification does PR-238 have?
SR FV-0 (3.0 mm) 7.5P to GB/T 24267-2009, with 0 s total flame time across five specimens against a 50 s maximum, and 0 s afterflame against a 30 s maximum.
Is a fire-rated sealant enough on its own?
No. A fire rating belongs to a tested assembly — substrate, joint dimensions, backing material and sealant together. Using a rated sealant in an untested joint detail is one of the most common compliance failures on site.
Does PR-238 stay flexible after fire exposure?
Yes. Silicone recovers 88% of its deformation after fire testing, so the joint still accommodates building movement. Rigid firestop mortars do not, which is why they crack in moving joints.
What is the MOQ and lead time?
Standard OEM and private label MOQ is 1,000 pcs per model, with mixed-model trial orders from 3,000 pcs total and stock items from 500 pcs. Typical lead time is 15–25 days after artwork and sample approval.
Is fire rated silicone caulk a real product, or only sealant?
It is the same product — fire rated silicone caulk is the trade word, fire rated silicone sealant is what the classification is written against. What matters is the fire classification, not the name. PR-238 is classified SR FV-0 (3.0 mm) 7.5P to GB/T 24267-2009, with total flame time of 0 seconds across five specimens and report 2022MJ007 available on request.
Is a high temperature silicone sealant the same as a fire-rated one?
No, and confusing the two is a common specification error. A high temperature silicone sealant is built to keep working at elevated service temperature — ovens, flues, exhausts — and is not tested for fire resistance. A fire-rated sealant is tested to stop flame spreading through a joint for a rated period. PR-238 is the fire-rated type, classified SR FV-0 to GB/T 24267-2009. If your application is high service temperature rather than a fire barrier, tell us and we will confirm which product applies.
What fire classification should I look for on a fire-rated sealant?
Look for a classification, not the words "fire rated" — a product either has one or it does not. PR-238 is classified SR FV-0 (3.0 mm) 7.5P to GB/T 24267-2009, meaning it passed the burning test with 0 seconds total flame time, no flame spread to the clamp and no dripping ignition. For a project specification, ask for the report number: ours is 2022MJ007.
How long does a fire-rated sealant keep moving after a fire?
Movement capability after exposure is what separates a fire-rated sealant from fire stop foam. PR-238 shows 88% elastic recovery, 73% elongation at break, and 62% elongation after water immersion — all well above the 25% minimum. That means the joint can keep absorbing movement after a fire event rather than cracking open. It is a fire-rated elastic sealant, not a rigid firestop, and not a structural adhesive.
